374 employees from Basel/Kaiseraugst in 95 teams took part with great enthusiasm in the Roche Table Football World Cup. The accent was on having fun.
The group stages were played first, followed by the play-offs – as is usual for major tournaments. The site winners from Basel (team "Isch halt immer öpis") and Kaiseraugst ("Töggeli-Sieche") qualified for the Super Finals, which were held on 14 June in the Children’s Walk tent at Basel's Solitude Park.
The winning teams from each site at Basel, Kaiseraugst, Rotkreuz, Grenzach, Mannheim, and Penzberg then played for the Roche World Cup: The "BSG1 Manneim 1" team came out on top. The exciting final against the "Bulldozers" from Penzberg ended 4:6, 6:2, 6:5, 6:1.
In the third-place play-off, the "Isch halt Immer öpis" team from Basel faced their Grenzach colleagues in "1. FC Eingelocht". The colleagues from Grenzach won 6:5, 1;6, 6:5, 2:6, 6:4.
Following the Super Finals it was time for an informal get-together and the broadcast of the actual Football World Cup opening game. 450 participants in the Bike-to work campaign and the Table Football World Cup attended this exciting and convivial afternoon and evening.
That sport brings people together even during the Table Football tournament was clear to everyone: many new friendships were made or existing ones consolidated. So the intention is to hold another tournament to mark the European Championships in 2020.
