Exercise, team spirit and fun – that's bike to work!

As you will have certainly seen from the media, the Bike to Work Challenge 2022 beat all previous editions. More participants, more teams, more companies and more kilometres: in May and June, people from over 80,000 companies covered more than 22 million kilometres cycling to and from work. F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd alone took part in the Challenge with 473 employees in 127 teams. Together, they covered some 186,734 kilometres. The organisers at the Roche Employees' Association (AVR) and the Site Mobility Team extend a sporting thank-you to all participants.

This time the most energetic team of all was Team pRAD (Christoph Husser, Yves Siegrist, Thomas Ramp and Bernd Steinhuber), which covered an impressive 2141 kilometres. In second place was the One-Bike-Chapter team comprising Alessandra Bühler, Olivier Kuster, Steven Challand and Janina Thiele), who managed a very respectable 1405 kilometres. Next, in third place, came KLAJODA (Josephine Felber), a solo cyclist who racked up 416 kilometres.

Top spot in the individual category was claimed by Jan Marti, with 2045 kilometres. Hot on his (w)heels came Thomas Müller with 1997 kilometres (second) followed by Alain Lautenschlager with 1873 kilometres (third).

We are especially pleased that 16 employees won one of the individual prizes in the official prize draw of the Bike to Work organisation, and that “4Muscle” (Alex Murphy, Jen Angst, Kathryn Wagner and Laura Palfreemann) emerged as lucky winners of the team prize. The AVR sends its warmest congratulations to the winners!

As a small thank-you for these efforts, the long-awaited BBQ was held in Kaiseraugst at the end of June. Despite thunder and stormy gusts, the AVR and the Site Mobility Team were able to welcome numerous cyclists to a congenial get-together in the canteen.

Everyone here in the organising team looks forward to the next Bike to Work Challenge in 2023, when it's "on your saddle, get set, go!" all over again.
