AVR long-service dinner

Every year, the AVR traditionally holds a long-service dinner for AVR members celebrating their 25th or 40th service anniversary at the company in the previous year. Unfortunately, the past two years were anything but normal. We would have been delighted to hold the popular event. A great deal of effort went into planning and organisation – each time, to no purpose.

This year once again, we wondered if we should organise the dinner and risk having to cancel it again. We also considered what we should do about the events that were cancelled. We spent a long time discussing an alternative for the dinners that unfortunately had to be cancelled. There were a lot of suggestions, none of which were particularly convincing, and all of which would have been impossible due to the pandemic. We have now decided not to make up for the cancelled long-service dinners. Instead, we will be making donations to two organisations that support people who greatly need our attention.

One donation will be made to the Swiss Red Cross for people in Ukraine, and one to the Gassenküche Basel soup kitchen, for those in need in our city. We hope and believe that everyone will be happy with this decision. The AVR members with long-service anniversaries who were unfortunately unable to enjoy a dinner can be certain that the money is going to a worthy cause.
